As we enter the month of October in the Tri-Cities, kids across our communities are getting excited for one of their favorite holidays…Halloween. Costumes, candy, ghosts, and goblins will be central to the thoughts of the youngsters for the entire month. Planning to make the holiday fun and safe for kids has become the endeavor of many local businesses and organizations.

To get ready for the Halloween season, complete with decorations, Tri-Citians can save October 21st to attend the Uptown Shopping Center’s Fall Festival. Admission is free and the event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Children can compete in a pumpkin carving contest, jump in a bounce house, enter a cornhole tournament, and take a hayride.

This year Richland has several activities to put on the calendar. On October 27th, The Academy of Children’s Theatre will be hosting the ACT’s Trunk or Treat + Haunted House. The fun will start at 4:00 p.m. and run to 6:00 p.m. at the theatre’s location of 213 Wellsian Way. This gives children a chance to wear their costumes more than one time! Because this event is at a theatre, expect the hosts that are handing out candy from the car trunks to be dressed too!

The next night, October 28th, all ages are invited (preferably in costume) to Badger Mountain’s Trick-Or-Treat on the Trail. This event is organized through the local YMCA and requires registration at ymcatricities.org. While pre-registration is preferred, families can register, starting at 8:30 a.m. at Badger Mountain, Trailhead Park at 541 Queensgate Dr. in Richland. Between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. families will hike, finding fun and games along the trail. At 11:30 a.m., no new hikers will be allowed to start the hike. Thanks to the YMCA for this original idea to blend family exercise, the geographic beauty of our region, and a Halloween celebration all in one!

If you don’t want to hike Badger on the 28th, Kennewick steps into the Halloween celebration scene on October 28th at 10:00 a.m., when the downtown area extends an invitation for all to enjoy the Halloween Boo Bash, a street festival. Trick-or-treating begins at 3:00 p.m., but costumed characters, vendors, and crafts will keep the kids entertained all morning.

October 29th will bring the Big Bro Joe Foundation Trunk-or-Treat for the fourth year! To enjoy this year’s festivities, including a DJ, bring your kids and their friends to the Toyota Center’s parking lot from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Be sure to wear costumes and be ready to enjoy over 40 local vendors and businesses as they hand out candy that will bring smiles to all.

The Tri-City communities help parents make Halloween celebrations fun-packed for the children. Plan to attend one or all of the events offered to enjoy the last days of a beautiful fall season.
