Are you a Tri-Citian searching for entertainment options in the coming months? Are you a fan of live musical performances? If you answered “yes” to either of those questions, we have some exciting news for you. The Mid-Columbia Mastersingers (MCM) is planning their last event of the season, providing Richland, Kennewick, and Pasco residents access to two live choral performances on Friday, April 14th (7:00 PM), and Saturday, April 15th (2:00 PM). This event, Light Beyond Shadow, will be held at the Kennewick First Presbyterian Church, and is set to feature a joint performance by the Mastersingers, Columbia Chorale, and Mastersingers Youth Choir.

Background

The MCM was founded as “Consort Columbia” in 1996 by Estyn Goss. His vision was to create an elite choir of auditioned singers to hold live musical performances with a focus on ease of accessibility. While the group has undergone numerous changes throughout the years – including stints as a musical theater group and operatic chorus – their core goal has solidly remained to “transform lives through the power of choral music.” Goss headed the MCM for 10 years before stepping down, and leadership of the organization changed hands several times throughout the years. The current Artistic Director is Justin Raffa, who has been serving in that position now since 2008 and is largely responsible for the MCM’s recent growth in popularity. Under his leadership, the choral group has continued to grow in musical excellence and is now providing outreach to underserved populations.

Events

Each season, the Mastersingers put on a series of four to five concert sets, frequently collaborating with other musical groups and organizations. This schedule allows for a series of musical performances and more than one opportunity of access. If you can’t make it to the Light Beyond Shadow concert, don’t fret. There will be more chances to catch the MCM’s live performances. They’re planning a Treble Choir event in the Tri-Cities for April 29th – 30th and will be performing at the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York City on May 26th. Tickets are available for all Mastersingers events online at their website, which you can check out here.
