There’s a buzz in the air for Tri-Citians about an upcoming gathering place for foodies. The new “Summer’s Hub” food cart cluster will be coming to Kennewick’s Columbia Center area. Thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit of Chris Corbin (wife Jennifer), they’ve already broken ground at 6481 W. Skagit Ave., next to the new Chuck E. Cheese.

Richland, Kennewick, and Pasco offer a variety of food truck vendors, but they are spread out across the region. In some places, (e.g. Ace Hardware in Richland), customers can find two or three trucks in one location. During special events at some local pubs and venues, a food truck will provide their delectable delights. These opportunities to tase the culinary fares are always and will continue to be appreciated, but this new concept takes food truck eating to new heights.

Summer’s Hub will offer a pavilion building with large overhangs. There will be approximately 28 food trucks stationed under the overhangs around the outside of the building.  Seating will offer picnic tables to create a family type setting. Seating will be out of the elements so that the food truck hub can remain open during all seasons, with air conditioning and heating to keep consumers comfortable during summer and winter seasons in the Tri-Cities.

Portland’s Cart Hubs

For those who have traveled to Portland, you probably experienced large gathering of food trucks. While the tastes are eclectic and inviting, you would certainly have struggled to find a place to park your car or sit to enjoy the food you chose. If it was raining, you would have certainly taken the food to go. Additionally, the groups of food trucks in the Portland area are not truly group accessible. Summer’s Hub will provide those conveniences that other food truck hubs don’t.

There will be ample parking as Summer’s Hub can share overflow parking with Chuck E. Cheese when needed. Large groups that might want to come for special events will find a place to park, including handicap parking, without a struggle. Additionally, Corbin’s plans include a stage to welcome entertainment.

The Vision

Corbin’s vision is for The Hub to be open every day of the week, a welcome idea for food truck lovers. Those food trucks that are scattered throughout the Tri-Cities set their own hours and each owner has personal needs that impact their operating hours. Sometimes we head to our favorite taco truck across town only to find it not open. Of course, these closures are understandable; however, it will be wonderful to know that when you go to Summer’s Hub, there will be consistent hours of operation on which you can depend. If you take out-of-town guests to eat (perfect way to please all appetites) at Summer’s Hub, you can be sure it will be open and ready to serve up the many flavors these talented chefs offer.

Food truck heaven is just about to create a gathering place for all Tri-Citians, with a possible opening date at the end of May, 2022. Foodies from around our area will have a new and exciting dining experience to enjoy!
